Apple has quietly introduced a new after-sales support warranty for the iPod nano and iPod shuffle.

The new AppleCare Protection Plan (APP) for the iPod nano and shuffle comes in at a lower price point than the equivalent scheme for full-size iPods. Unti now, owners of any of the three types of iPod had just one scheme they could choose to participate in.

APP for iPod costs £39, while the new scheme for the iPod nano and shuffle costs £25.

Joining the scheme offers customers extended service and support for the player, its battery and the included accessories. You get two years of coverage.

"With this plan, both Mac and Windows customers have access to Apple expert plus global repair or replacement service," the company explains.

If you have already purchased APP for iPod (£39) for a nano or shuffle and want to claim back the £14 difference you can do so, as long as you contact the company within 14 days of shipment or purchase if the product shipped or was purchased on or after 30 December.
