Apple is being sued again. This time by a company that claims it owns the patents to technology used by iOS 6 new Passbook feature.
Ameranth claims that Apple is infringing four of its patents in order to allow users to download and store boarding passes, tickets and reservation information.
The patents in dispute are: US Patent No. 6,384,850 for "Information management and synchronous communications system with menu generation" and the related US Patent No. 6,871,325; US Patent No. 6,982,733; and US Patent No. 8,146,077.
According to an Apple Insider report, the patented technology was originally used by restaurant workers. Ameranth is involved in the hospitality, entertainment, restaurant and food service industry.
Ameranth is seeking triple damages due to Apple's alleged "willful infringement," of the patents.
According to a VentureBeat report, the company suing Apple over Passbook is owned, or at least heavily funded by, Microsoft and Motorola.
