The black iPhone 5S could be the most popular purchase among Macworld readers when Apple releases its new iPhones this month, with the gold iPhone 5S following close behind and the blue iPhone 5C the most popular choice among the cheaper iPhone models.

That's according to our recent Macworld poll, which asked readers which new iPhone they're more likely to buy (assuming the rumours of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C launch are true).

According to the poll's results, 42.5 per cent of the participants would buy an iPhone 5S if Apple unveils one at its special event tomorrow.

It's rumoured that the iPhone 5S could come in four different colours: gold, black, white and grey. The most popular choice of iPhone 5S colour among those who said they would be more likely to buy the new flagship iPhone is black, with 35.3 per cent of the vote.

The gold iPhone was close behind with 25.6 per cent of the vote from those who said they'd buy an iPhone 5S, while the grey iPhone came in third and the white iPhone (somewhat surprisingly) was the least popular among the iPhone 5S options.

As for the iPhone 5C, 18.5 per cent of our readers said that they would be more likely to buy an iPhone 5C if Apple announces one at its event. There are five rumoured iPhone 5C colours: yellow, green, white, blue and red.

The least popular of those five colour options is yellow (just 6.4 per cent of the potential iPhone 5C customers chose yellow), followed by green (11.3 per cent). The white and red options were closely matched, with 20.5 per cent and 18.91 per cent of the vote respectively.

Most popular by a large margin was the blue iPhone 5C option. Of those who said they'd be most likely to buy an iPhone 5C, 42.7 per cent said they'd choose blue.

However, with 31.2 per cent of the overall vote, it looks like more of our readers would rather wait for the iPhone 6 than buy an iPhone 5C. The iPhone 6 is rumoured to have a bigger display, but isn't likely to launch until late next year.

The remaining 7.9 per cent of our readers said that they would either get an Android or a different smartphone.
