Elgato, a leading manufacturer of TV recording software and TV tuners, has released the EyeTV Netstream Sat.
Much like the EyeTV Netstream DTT introduced in February this year, Elgato's new device offers a way to watch television simply around the house.
The big difference is the EyeTV Netstream Sat works with satellite and means access to HD content from broadcasters such as the BBC and ITV.
Additionally the EyeTV Netstream Sat can stream free-to-air channels not available on Freeview as well as content from any other satellites positions capable of being received from the UK and Ireland.
The EyeTV Netstream Sat streams satellite signals to any computer in the house, sending the TV signal through your router.
If you have a Wi-Fi network, even iPads can access standard definition channels from EyeTV Netstream Sat, with the latest iOS 4.2 update from Apple.
This direct connection between the network tuner and an iOS4 device requires the new version of the EyeTV application, version 1.2, which is available from the Apple iTunes App Store.
The new EyeTV application feature also works with the DVB-T Freeview compatible EyeTV Netstream DTT.
Additionally, DVB-S2 HDTV channels can be streamed via Wi-Fi or 3G/UMTS Internet connection provided a Mac with Elgato's EyeTV 3 TV software is running as a local streaming server.
The EyeTV Netstream Sat comes with EyeTV 3, Elgato's award-winning Mac TV software.
EyeTV 3 lets users watch, record, edit television, search two weeks of Program Guide listings, and export recordings automatically to iTunes to sync with Apple devices including iPhones and iPods.
The EyeTV Netstream Sat starts shipping on 22 November with a SRP of £189.95/€199.95.
A dual-tuner add-on, which offers the ability to watch more than one channel at a time, is sold separately. Elgato's new EyeTV Sat Free connects to the USB port on the back of EyeTV Netstream Sat, enabling it to stream a second TV channel to computers in the home network.
System requirements are Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later, Intel based Mac. On PCs, EyeTV Netstream Sat requires Windows 7 and a 2.0 GHz Intel/AMD CPU or better.
Elgato adds, network bandwidth must be high enough to allow for streaming of television signals - 100Base-T Ethernet, 802.11n for wireless.
Direct streaming to EyeTV for iPhone requires an iPad, an iPhone 4 or an iPod touch (4th generation.)
A Mac or a PC is required for initial setup of EyeTV Netstream tuners.
