Thomson Scientific's EndNote XI has been announced and is available immediately.

EndNote XI is a bibliographic management application that's popular among researchers, librarians and students.

This new version introduces custom groups to view and manage subsets of references, AppleScript compatibility for key EndNote tasks, and seamless connectivity with EndNote Web to simplify collaboration with colleagues. The software permits users to drag-&-drop references into subject folders for immediate access to subsets of references.

EndNote Web is the application's new web-based research and writing tool that allows users to access their groups instantly and manage their references efficiently. This feature also lets users collaborate on tasks.

Additional features include a Quick Search function within the Mac toolbar and use of the native Mac OS X spellchecker. Users can now view all authors for a reference in the main list display, and organise up to 45 files - PDFs, graphics, PowerPoints and more - per reference using the file attachment field.

EndNote X1 also includes new and updated files for searching online resources, importing references and formatting bibliographies - 1,500 connections to online sources, 600 import filters and over 2,800 publishing styles.

The software is available for Mac OS X and Windows 2000, XP, and Vista. It costs $299.95 in the US, UK pricing hasn't yet been announced.
