Breakthrough Breast Cancer has launched the iBreastCheck for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with reports one in nine women in the UK will get breast cancer in their lifetime.
The charity notes, some 46,000 women and 300 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK. October is breast cancer awareness month with various fund raising events taking place.
iBreastCheck for iPhone, includes a breast check video demonstrating how women can check their breasts, the ability to set users reminders for a breast check, and a risk report to assess how users lifestyle could enhance the risks of getting breast cancer.
iBreastCheck also contains information about Breakthrough Breast Cancer and offers users a number of ways to get involved and help the charity continue pioneering work in the fight against breast cancer.
"This is an incredible development from Breakthrough Breast Cancer, I only wish it had been thought of sooner," said actress and singer, Bernie Nolan, who is currently being treated for the disease.
"The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chance of beating it, which is why I would urge every woman to get into the habit of checking themselves following Breakthrough Breast Cancer's simple Touch Look Check message - it could make all the difference."
Available from the Apple iTunes App Store, iBreastCheck is free and requires the iOS 3.1 Software Update or later.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer is billed as the UK's leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research, campaigning and education.
