Sony has joined Creative in a move to embrace the Apple-favoured audio format, AAC.
The company has introduced two new models of Walkman digital music player, the A and the S series, both of which support unprotected AAC music files.
This means music fans who own iTunes Plus tracks or who have been ripping their music collections in non-DRM-protected AAC format can play their sounds on Sony's latest devices, as well as iPods.
The A810, S610, S510 Walkman models also support Windows Media Player, and ship with Microsoft's media management software, as the company dumps its previous ATRAC standard, T3 reports.
The devices are available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities in a range of colours, the report explains.
