Intempo has confirmed plans to ship a combined iPod docking station, speaker system and dual band DAB digital/FM radio through high street shops by the end of October.

The RDI-03 will retail through Dixons, Currys, Comet and Amazon and will be in-store from the end of October, priced at around £99.

Intempo’s DAB digital radio heritage will converge with its market leading speaker-docks to produce the powerful RDI-03. The system will be available in black and has a 30-watt output, including a 15-watt subwoofer.

The RDI-03 will play, sync and charge iPods, and will also have an alarm with sleep and snooze. All functionality will be controlled either manually or with the 19-key remote control.

“In order to make DAB compelling for the iPod generation, we are letting them access it through a familiar medium - MP3 speaker-docks. Many DAB radios on the market today have a 3.5mm jack which will play iPod tunes through the radio speaker; at Intempo we’ve turned this notion on its head, revolutionising the DAB market by offering it free, with our RDI-03 high end speakers,” said Bernadette Spofforth, managing director of Intempo.

“With DAB sales now in excess of five million and no wane in the iPod’s popularity, we expect the RDI-03 to be a fantastic Christmas seller,” Spofforth concluded.
