Apple's iPad mini and fourth-generation iPad accounted for a total of four per cent of the overall iPad traffic during their launch month, a new report has found.

Mobile analytics firm Localytics found that the two new iPads, which hit the shelves simultaneously on 2 November, accounted for two per cent each of Apple's tablet traffic last month, while the iPad 2 had more than half of the share.

While this number seems small, it is worth noting that the 4G versions of the iPad mini and the full-size fourth-generation iPad did not become available until the end of the month.

This, added to the supply issues that the iPad mini faced upon launch which have now eased, could indicate that the December period will see much stronger traffic from Apple's two newest tablet devices.

TechCrunch highlights that the third-generation iPad managed to pass the traffic share of the original iPad within its second month, a target that is still feasible for the two new iPads when taking into consideration the aforementioned struggles they faced within their first month.

However, Localytics reported that the third-generation iPad managed to climb to 14 per cent of the overall Apple tablet share within a week of its launch, so the iPad mini and iPad 4 haven't been off to the best start.

Localystics has also published data showing engagement, based on iPad session length, which found that those using an iPad mini spend less time in-app, while the original iPad had the longest time. Localytics says that the iPad mini's smaller form factor could mean owners are dipping in and out of apps like they might normally do when using a smartphone.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 5 now accounts for 12 per cent of all iPhone app usage, with the iPhone 4S ahead at 42 per cent and the iPhone 4 just behind at 39 per cent.
