Apple's iOS 6.1.3 update, which was released for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch owners last week, appears to be causing battery life issues for many users.

On 19 March, the iOS 6.1.3 update became available for Apple devices, bringing with it a fix for a lock screen bypassing bug, as well as some improvements for Maps in Japan and a plug for the evasi0n jailbreak exploits. However, just a day later, a new passcode bug was discovered.

Now, it seems that iOS 6.1.3 has also led to battery life issues for some iPhone owners, according to complaints voiced on Twitter and Apple's Support Communities forum.

"Last night I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 6.1.3 and now it drains my battery in an extremely fast manner," one person wrote on the support forum. "As I started signing in to write this question from my iPhone I already lost 13 per cent of my battery. I never had a problem with a battery and I've been using iPhones since the first one."

A second user wrote: "I am too losing one per cent of battery every few mins. I've completely erased all content and settings and started as new but it's still no good."

Another iPhone owner wrote on the forum: "I had to charge my phone TWICE yesterday and I hardly used it."

Several of those suffering from the battery drain issue have said that it caused them to miss their morning alarm.

In total, the Apple Support Communities thread titled "iOS 6.1.3 battery drainage" has had 8121 views at the time of writing, and 92 replies from disgruntled users.

This is not the first time an update appears to have caused battery drain issues, though. When iOS 6.1 was released, upgraders reported a big drop in battery life, and, before that, iOS 6.0.2 was reported to be the cause of "unusual battery drains."
