From December 2006, patients will be able to listen to information about the medicines they have been prescribed using an iPod.

All medicines should ship with Patient Information Leaflets (PILs). Now, as a collaboration between the Royal National Institute for the Blind and not-for-profit company, Datapham Communications, these leaflets are being made available as MP3 files.

The files will be distributed through a new website, X-PIL. The move follows the recent delivery of such leaflets in Braille, large print and audio CDs.

In the coming months, more PILs will be added to the X-PIL site - by the end of March 2007 over 2,500 of them should be available.
