Our collection of rumours and speculation about the launch date of the iPhone 6 was our most popular story this year (despite the fact that the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launched in September). What this tells us is that a lot of people are searching for information about the next new iPhone. While much of what we read about the new iPhone is nearly rumour and speculation, if you look back over our year of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c reports you can see that the devices leaked months before they were announced, so, while Apple reveals little, and any reports should be taken with a pinch of salt, you may well get an insight into what’s coming thanks to the Chinese factories with their rather lax attempts to keep secrets for Apple.
Also popular was our round up of iPad 5 rumours, again showing just how eager people are to learn more about new Apple products. We wonder if there is ever this much interest in a new Samsung product…
Apple announced at the end of September that 200 million people had already installed iOS 7 on their iPads and iPhones. Unfortunately, judging from the interest in our article about downgrading from iOS 7 to iOS 6 there were quite a few who regretted installing iOS 7. Part of the problem with the iOS 7 update was that people were so unfamiliar with the interface. Confronted with a completely different operating system to what they were used to, iOS 7 users took to the web in search of tips and details of how to use the new iOS.
Another popular how to was our explanation of a easy way to access the power button if it stopped working. The interest in this how to suggests that a lot of people - including two on the Macworld staff - are experiencing this problem (with older iPhones).
If anyone tells you that the Mac is no good for gaming tell them poppycock! One of our most popular features on the Macworld site is the best Mac games. Even more popular than our best iOS games feature.
It’s not only details of the next generation iPad and iPhone that Macworld readers are looking for. Also popular was our collection of rumours and launch date information for Microsoft’s new Office for Mac which we expect will launch in 2014.
When it came to Apple’s Macs the one most people wanted to read about was the MacBook Air. The new MacBook Air launched in June, and ever since there have been rumours circulating that the next model will introduce a Retina display.
This was the question on may people’s lips in the run up to the launch of the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. As their mobile contracts ran out people were wondering whether they should buy an iPhone 5 or wait for Apple to launch the new phones, and even when the details of the new phones emerged there were still those who wondered whether to wait another year for the iPhone 6.
This was another of those stories that suggests that Mac and iOS gaming is big news. When the latest version of Grand Theft Auto launched people started searching for details of the launch for Mac and iOS.
