Microsoft Techfest is underway this week at the company's headquarters in Redmond, Washington with two research projects hoping to improve medical diagnostics.

The projects are designed to help with screening for cancer of the colon and interpreting CT scans.

Curtis Devlin, Principal architect, Microsoft Developer Platform Evangelism, explains the techniques used to highlight polyps in colon scans using natural and unnatural colouring.

Antonio Criminisi, a Researcher at Microsoft Research, demonstrates how Microsoft's technology can analyse medical images automatically in order to aid healthcare professionals.
