Apple reveals new iPod touch

Apple launches new iTunes for iOS 6 and Desktop

Welcome to our New iPod touch release date, rumours and leaked images article, here we plan to do everything that the title suggests. We are going to bring you everything we know about the new iPod touch release date so you can know exactly when the new iPod touch is coming out. Also we are going to bring you a few of the juiciest spec rumours that are flying round the web's most trusted websites too. Finally we have a some new iPod touch leaked images that we'd like to show you. So sit back and relax we're got the new iPod touch covered.

Even though most people focus on Apple’s other key products, the iPod touch is often the one many people end up owning. The iPod touch brings the best of iOS-based devices and puts it in a package that people can afford.

Although Apple’s hasn’t confirmed a new model of iPod touch, we are convinced that they will launch a new model later this year. The new iPod touch is rumoured to take much of the technology from the next-generation of iPhone (without, of course, the phone bit) and bring it to the public.

New iPod touch release date

Historically Apple has a new iPod touch release date in September, this ensures that the device follows the iPhone launch but in time for the holiday period. Typically Apple launches the new iPod touch following the iPhone update, and implements the technology from the iPhone into the new iPod touch. Apple did not have a new iPod touch release during 2011, so we are fairly confident in a new model being released this year.

History suggests that new iPod touch will arrive in September

It is possible that the new iPod touch release date could coincide with the new iPhone 5, which is due to be announced 21 September 2012.

This would be a good time to announce the iPod touch. However, Apple has typically announced the new iPod touch slightly later than the iPhone as it doesn’t want it to draw attention away from the marquee phone product. In this case we could see a new iPod touch release date in October.

New iPod touch may launch in October alongside iPad mini

We have that the rumoured iPad mini will launch at a later date than the iPhone, in October. Some sources indicate that Apple will hold a separate event that combines the iPod touch release with the iPad mini (which may be branded as an iPod touch).

New iPod touch rumours

Any new iPod touch release typically follows the iPhone’s in design and feature functionality.

New iPod touch to have A5 processor

Sources indicate that the new iPod touch will get the faster A5 processor from the iPhone 4S (the current model features the A4 processor from the iPhone 4).

New iPod touch to feature larger screen

There is little indication regarding the screen size for the new iPod touch. The iPod touch already has the Retina display, and it could feature the taller 4-inch display expected with the iPhone 4S.

Sources indicate the new iPod touch and iPad mini may share similar design ethos, with smaller size bezels and thinner profile.

This could indicate that Apple may keep the screen size for the new iPod touch at the same size it currently is.

As with most new Apple products, sources indicate that the new iPod touch will be slightly thinner than the current model.

New iPod touch to have 4G/LTE

The new iPod touch is rumoured to include a model with a 4G/LTE SIM-card slot. This is a bit of an odd rumour, due to much head-scratching about the difference between the iPod touch with 4G and a new iPhone. However, the iPod touch would not be able to make calls or send non texts to non-iOS devices, so there would still be some difference between the new iPod touch and the iPhone.

New iPod touch to run iOS 6

The new iPod touch will run iOS 6 instead of iOS 5. The current generation of iPod touch is going to be updated to iOS 6, so the new iPod touch release will come pre-loaded with iOS 6.

New iPod touch to feature Siri

The new iPod touch is expected to come with the A5 processor from the iPhone 4S, so we expect it to run Siri. And as Siri will be enhanced with iOS 6 it will be able to provide sports, business and other local information.

Sources indicate that the new iPod touch camera will be better.

The new iPod touch release is expected to include a better camera, with 3-megapixel quality. This is still well below par, and well below that offered by the current generation of iPhone. But it is better than the camera in the current iPhone.

New iPod touch leaked images

There have been a few leaked images for the new iPod touch, mostly indicating that it is similar in size and scope to what we expect from the next-generation iPhone. Although leaks for the new iPod touch tend to be less frequent (suggesting that either security is tighter, or - more likely - that the iPhone focus leads to more fakery).

New iPod touch leaked images appeared on Macrumours.com back in May, and displayed a device with a 3.95-inch display.

There have also been a few new iPod touch leaked images appearing on other websites such as this one from 9to5Mac.

Whether these are actual new iPod touch leaked images, early prototypes or outright fakes are debatable. Much of the internet chatter has focussed more on the iPad mini and next-generation iPhone, especially lately. If any more new iPod touch leaked images appear we will place them here.
