O2 stores saw visits triple in the last two months on strength of interest in Apple's iPhone, the mobile network has confirmed.

Apple's other iPhone partner, Carphone Warehouse, may have seen a similar increase. In the case of both companies, while many iPhone curious customers may not have purchased an iPhone, they may have acquired a new phone from another manufacturer, O2 claims.

These statements are the best indication yet that O2 may have enjoyed a strong Christmas quarter. O2 will report its financial results in late February.
