Fans of The Onion can now get their fix of spoof news through a free iPad app.

Describing itself as "the last bastion of unbiased, reliable and definitive news in a world dominated by superficiality, mediocrity and non-Onion news outlets" The Onion is famed for making a mockery of just about everything you can think of.

Following on from an iPhone app launched last year, The Onion Tablet is rated 12+ and includes videos as well as written articles. Appropriately enough, it was launched on April Fools' Day, and requires iOS 4.2 or higher.

Reviews of the app vary. "The layout lacks something, as it is just text on a white background and the advertising is somewhat intrusive. Not a fan of this app," one user wrote.

However, others love it. "This app alone has kept me laughing all the way home. Excellent app, smooth and fast but it's the excellent content that makes this app shine," another said.

Of course, Apple has been on the receiving end of The Onion's sharp satire in the past: The MacBook Wheel video (below) is a send-up of Apple's product launches and the hype that surrounds them. "The computer is virtually unbreakable unless dropped or hit," the reporter tells us.

Apple fans are also mocked in the video. "I'll buy almost anything if it's shiny and made by Apple," one potential buyer tells the camera.
