Opera Mini for iPhone has been downloaded more than one million times in the first day of release the company has announced.
Opera Mini is also currently the number one iPhone application in the 22 featured Apple iTunes App Stores.
Opera Mini for iPhone promises 'fast like a rocket,' browsing, up to six times faster than Safari according to an Opera press release and based on the company's tests.
According to Opera. due to server-side rendering, Opera Mini compresses data by up to 90 per cent before sending it to the phone, resulting in rapid page loading and more Web per MB for the end user.
"Today iPhone users have a choice, and, as the numbers show, they are eager to explore new and faster ways to surf the Web on the iPhone - especially during heavy Web traffic," said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software.
"With any widely available and frequently downloaded Opera product, we are appreciative of all the feedback we are getting, as it helps us to continually improve our product and better meet the needs of our users."
Available from the Apple iTunes App Store, Opera Mini for iPhone is free and requires the iPhone 2.2.1 Software Update.
