Sibelius Software has launched Groovy City, the third in its Groovy Music series of music education applications for 5-to-11-year-olds.

The Groovy Music series now spans all primary school ages. The software aims to develop children’s musical knowledge through animated, curriculum-focused exercises and music composition.
Groovy City puts children inside a futuristic city landscape adventure designed to inspire them to understand, learn and create music. It is designed for all music curriculums for 9-to-11-year-olds, including UK Key Stage 2.
The application includes a range of loops and sound effects that let children compose hip-hop, house and other contemporary music styles. It also explores tone colour, rhythm and notation. Children can compose music using a MIDI keyboard.

Students are also introduced to question and answer phrases and the blues scale, so that they can begin to build up more sophisticated compositions.
