Apple's UK iTunes team is under fire this week, as Sophie Ellis Bextor is furious at an error which may put her chart position in danger.

The UK star released new single Me And My Imagination last week in the UK – but iTunes failed to make the release available until 14 May, which could impact the single's success.

Recent changes in chart rules mean digital sales account toward chart position. Digital sales now account for more than 50 per cent of single sales – so with iTunes dominant in digital music downloads, the non-availability of her track could damage her chart position.

She told Contact Music: "It's been a nightmare - and I've heard it's happened to a few other artists. It didn't turn up last week. The way singles are going it's getting like America where singles climb the charts. Hopefully the problem will get fixed."
