The new iPhone, potentially the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6, isn’t even available yet and already the public is managing to slate it. Surely this obsession with the brand that extends to products that don’t even exist yet can only be an indication of popularity?
Apparently not, according to comparison site, Mobile Phone Checker, which claims 65 per cent of the 2000 Brits it surveyed think that the next generation iPhone will have poor sales. A total of 31 per cent of those who don’t have confidence in the new model say it's because they believe Samsung is increasingly dominating the phone market, and that this will affect iPhone sales.
Other reasons include the 26 per cent of respondents who think it will be too expensive, while 23 per cent believe Apple products aren't up to their old standard, and 22 per cent think that the next generation iPhone will be too similar to the current model and 19 per cent just aren’t excited about a new iPhone release and don’t think anyone else would be either.
According to a different survey conducted by We Are Social and reported by the Daily Mail, the iPhone 5 was the most criticized handset on various social networks after its launch in 2012.
49 per cent of Brits in that survey think that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini will be a success but only a third of the respondents think the new iPhone will be a success. However, only 14 per cent those asked owned a Samsung whereas 34 per cent were iPhone users.
It’s difficult to argue with so many percentages but what’s puzzling is that iPhone users still greatly outnumber those with Samsung’s in the survey and in the UK. Plus, Apple was the company with the second largest profit in the world in the last financial year.
