The UK's first unsigned act to make the official top 40 singles chart, Koopa, plans a free online gig this evening.

The band, described as the "English Blink 182" by Virgin Radio DJ Steve James, used the web to take a slice of chart history this month, exploiting new chart rules governing downloads to secure the title of first unsigned act to chart.

Starting 1 January, the Official Charts Company relaxed its rules to make more downloads qualify for the charts. The act urged their fans to sign-up and pre-order the single when it shipped on 8 January.

At 8pm tonight, the band will play its free online gig, which will be repeated every two hours for 24 hours. The act will then speak to fans using chatrooms and radio.
