Apple's iPod is one of 25 consumer electronic products that have changed lives since 1982, according to USA Today.
The report 25 years of 'eureka' moments' puts the iPod in eighth place as a life-changing device - though the report does make one factual error.
"Walking down the sidewalk hasn't been the same since November 2001, when Apple introduced its iconic portable digital music player. It wasn't the first player, but fans declared it the coolest and easiest to use by snapping up more than 100 million of them," the report explains.
Apple introduced the first iPod on 23 October 2001. At that time, company boss Steve Jobs said: “With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new category of digital music player that lets you put your entire music collection in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go. With iPod, listening to music will never be the same again.”
Mobile phones, laptops, Blackberries and debit cards took first, second, third and fourth place (respectively) in USA Today's 'eureka' list, which also features Caller ID, DVDs and rechargeable batteries.
