Adobe has used major US photography trade show PMA 2006 to offer an update on its Lightroom software and continuing work with partners to extend Photoshop CS 2.

Lightroom is user-focused

The company confirmed that over 100,000 copies of Lightroom 1 have been downloaded with 2,800 photographers already offering feedback on the product in Adobe's forums. Over 30,000 people have already downloaded Lightroom beta 2, which works on Macs with both PowerPC and Intel processors (a "Universal" application).

Deborah Whitman, vice president of product management for digital imaging at Adobe said: "There has been a flurry of activity in the Lightroom Beta forums and it's exciting for us to watch the beta evolve as photographers help us build an application tailored to their needs."

Adobe also confirmed it plans to provide a Windows beta of the software "later this year".

The Photoshop ecosystem

The company also offered an update on some of the Photoshop CS2 work it has been doing with third-party partners.

HP has developed a new professional photo printer, the HP Photosmart Pro B9180 Professional Photo Printer, which includes an HP Photosmart plug-in for Adobe Photoshop CS2, which automatically synchronises Photoshop CS2 and the printer driver for a single user interface and colour management.

Lexar has developed a smart image acquisition plug-in module for Adobe Bridge to be released in Spring 2006. This will let users directly download images from multiple cards at once.

Logitech has introduced the NuLOOQ navigator, a control device that's used in conjunction with a mouse and a keyboard to manipulate images and documents.
