Apple executives are claiming that over 1,000 applications are already available as Universal binaries.

A Universal binary application should run natively on both Intel and PowerPC-based Macs.

Echoing statements made by senior Apple employees in London yesterday, Apple chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer told attendees at the Morgan Stanley Semiconductor and Systems Conference that 1,000 applications are now available as Universal applications.

Oppenheimer conceded that some pro apps, such as Photoshop, aren't yet available as Universal. He observed that some 'power users' may notice a slightly poorer performance.

It won't be forever, he added: "We have commitments from our major developers," he said. "They will release universal versions of their applications - not only Adobe, but also Quark and Microsoft," reports EETimes.
