Apple's move to Intel continues to gather momentum, with ever-more applications coming to the new platform.

Apple last night confirmed that over 2,000 Universal applications have shipped so far. "We're very pleased," said Apple's worldwide developer relations chief, Ron Okamoto. "We're getting to the back-end of the developer community now."

"Given that we only began shipping these Macs in January this year, we're doing rather well," he said.

The latest Macs use Intel processors, rather than the PowerPC chips users have grown accustomed to across the years. Apple calls applications that run natively on both processors, 'Universal Applications'.

Apple's Universal applications product guide now features 2,006 applications that will work natively on both Intel and PowerPC Macs.

"We expect the breadth of the Mac developer community to continue to grow," he explained.
