Toshiba may seek damages from Sony over the recent battery recall.

Reuters reports that the company may launch a case against Sony in pursuit of damages to compensate for possible damage to Toshiba's reputation and loss in potential sales as a result of the situation.

Sony is paying for the recall, which has also created a shortage in batteries presently available to the market.

Toshiba, Dell, Apple, Lenove, Hitachi, Fujitsu, IBM, and Sharp have all been impacted by the problem. A fault was found in batteries made containing Sony cells that could cause the battery to catch fire in normal use.

Toshiba has recalled 1,170,000 notebook batteries in response.
