Former Apple CEO John Sculley has been made honorary president of the Worldwide Newton Association.

The association was founded in April to promote the Newton computing platform.

Sculley joined Apple in 1983 and remained for 10 years. While at Apple, he conceived of a device that could access a large networked database of hypertext information and use software agents to assist searching through that information. Initially referred to as a Knowledge Navigator, the idea subsequently became the foundation for the Newton project, Apple's personal digital assistant (PDA).

Other honorary members of the association include Larry Yaeger and Walter Smith, two architects of the Newton platform.

The Worldwide Newton Conference will take place in Paris on September 4-5.
