Apple has achieved 41st position in a survey of global brands, two places up from where it was last year.

BusinessWeek's survey is based upon brands valued at over $1 billion with at least 20 per cent of their sales coming from outside the country in which they are based.

The new placing sees Apple rise from 43rd place last year and 50th position in 2003. The reason for this is that Apple is now valued at $7.985 billion. This is $1.1 billion more than last year.

Microsoft gets one up on Apple in this survey – the software giant is in second place.
