Apple's move to Intel processors in its Macintosh computers continues to bear fruit - this time market-leading OS virtualisation company VMWare has hinted at future Mac plans.

The news follows Apple's revelation of its Boot Camp software, which allows users to set Intel Macs to boot up in both Windows and Mac OS. It also follows hot on the heels of the recent release of Parallels software, which lets users boot multiple operating systems within Mac OS X.

In an interview with Raghu Raghuram, who is vice president of platform products at VMware, Virtualization.info reveals the company's Mac plans.

VMware was founded in 1998 to bring virtual machine technology to industry-standard computers. It now has 4 million users at 20,000 corporate firms.

The website asked Raghuram why his firm has been so secretive about any plans it may have to move to Mac - but this secrecy may mask a work in progress, Raghuram suggests.

"With Apple switching to x86-based processors, robust and proven virtualisation capabilities for Apple users is an interesting opportunity. We have stated that we do have VMware running on Mac OS X in our labs," Raghuram reveals.

He adds: "Stay tuned for future announcements in this area."
