Mon, 31 Jul 2006 Apple iPhone hoax ads hit YouTube
Speculation that Apple may release an iPod mobile phone has spawned the online appearance of a series of fake ads for the potential future product.
These are available to view on YouTube.com.
One ad depicts a young woman wandering through what seems to be an art gallery. As she approaches one of the pictures in the gallery, it transforms itself into an iPod interface, promising calls, email, music, movies and image playback to the customary accompaniment of a series of dancing silhouettes.
This particular 39-second clip has already been looked at over 13,000 times. You can watch it here.
Several other purported ads also exist. There's a fairly over-the-top treatment here.
A third offering is far more laid-back and depicts a metallic, slim touch-activated device with a huge screen. However, this is clearly described as a "conceptual" piece.
These reports emerge as an Engadget begins a reader-generated rumour of a photographer allegedly being hired by Apple to take some PR shots of "the sleekest, sexiest phone he's ever seen".
Speaking earlier this month, Apple chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer fanned the flames of the iPod phone rumours when he said: "As regards mobile phones, we do not think that the phones that are available today make the best music players. We think the iPod is. But over time, that is likely to change, and we are not sitting around doing nothing."
The Bank of America today confirmed it expects Apple to deliver its iPhone in 2007.
