US iPhone customers are being asked to take part in an AT&T survey that hints at iChat support in the iPhone.

Part of this survey offers a set of multiple choice questions in which users are asked to assess the performance of AT&T's Edge network for a variety of functions, including a mention of iChat.

iChat support isn't currently enabled in the iPhone, but other questions ask about already available features, including YouTube access, Google Maps, email, search and the weather and stock widgets.

EnGadget observes that the inclusion of the question doesn't necessarily mean too much - it could be an error, or it could indicate Apple is working on introducing such support in the form of a software update.
