Tim Cook confirms June launch for iPhone and 90 million iPods sold

Apple's chief operating officer, Tim Cook has confirmed 90 million iPod sales since October 2001 and confirmed a June launch for iPhone remains on target.

Cook was speaking at the Goldman Sachs 2007 Technology Investment Symposium Conference. He stressed Apple's expectation of selling ten million of its mobile phones in 2008, but warned that it's "too early" to tell if the release of iPhone will impact against iPod sales.

"The iPod is being sold for a wide variety of uses. We'll see what happens," Cook said. He confirmed that Apple has sold 90 million iPods since October 2001.

Cook — who has been with Apple since 1998 — talked about Apple's innovations, from the iMac right through to the iPod nano.

Apple senior vice president and chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer will also speak, this time to the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference on 6 March, 2007 at approximately 3:00pm PT (8pm UK time).
