Senior technologist on fraud-prevention panel in June

A senior Apple technologist charged with developing anti-fraud and data mining tools at the company will speak during a special session at an upcoming internet conference in June.

Apple's director of data mining, David Moriarty, will speak at the Internet Retailer Conference and Exhibition on 4-7 June in San Jose. He'll be part of an industry heavyweight panel session called Web Security: Identifying and Avoiding the Scam Artists.

A founding member of the Merchant Risk Council, Moriarty leads a team developing analytical solutions for large-scale business problems, applying data mining techniques to, "optimise strategic decisions in fraud detection, product quality, logistics, manufacturing, and finance," according to the conference website.

The computer scientist received an MS and a Ph.D. at the University of Texas specialising in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

At Apple he has developed e-commerce fraud detection analytic solutions to help prevent fraud. The system enables Apple to "maintain industry-low order review and fraud loss rates," the website reports.
