Mon, 21 Jul 2008 Apple's iPhone sell-out continues
iPhone now available at only three US Apple retail stores
Apple has sold out of iPhones across the US, with the device unavailable in all bar three of its own-brand retail stores.
AT&T sold out of the iPhone 3G in some locations on day one, and is now advising customers to be prepared for up to a three week wait for new stock.
Analysts estimate Apple earned as much as $330 million during the first weekend of the iPhone launch, during which the company claimed it sold one million of the devices.
It's the same deal in the UK, where reports now suggest Apple's UK carrier, O2, is running extremely low on stock with new shipments coming in irregularly.
Saying Apple failed to accurately predict initial demand for the iPhone 3G, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says it will be up to four weeks before the new device is available again.
"I bet we'll see these problems for another two to four weeks," he said. "Early demand has been more than they expected. There were outages last year, but not to this extent. This is a more sustained outage, and the demand seems to be sustained. Sales internationally have taken inventory away from the US," Munster said.
