Launches US service with single tracks at $0.77, the majority of albums $7.77.
7digital, an online provider of music tracks, music videos, films and audiobooks, has partnered with RIM to offer seven million MP3 tracks to BlackBerry users.
The DRM-free service allows BlackBerry users to download lower bit-rate tracks on the move which are then updated to high-quality 320kbps MP3 automatically, in the background, when a faster Wi-fi connection becomes available.

At a central London press launch 7digital showed the media player application, promising a simple and stress free way to browse and search for music, both online and on your BlackBerry, without the need to sync with a computer. The application interface shows both cover art and track listing information.
The BlackBerry application includes built in support for stereo Bluetooth streaming, allowing users to play music wirelessly at home and in the car.
The free 7digital application can be downloaded from BlackBerry App World and 7digital via www.7digital.com/bb.
Currently the application supports the BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Curve 8900, BlackBerry Tour, BlackBerry Curve 8520 and BlackBerry Storm smartphones.
The 7digital BlackBerry application has been created in partnership with DevelopIQ.

7digital also announced the launch of a US store, which hopes to compete with iTunes and others, including content from Universal Music Group, Warner, EMI, Sony and leading independent labels.
7digital point out, MP3 downloads from us.7digital.com are compatible with any music player including iPods, iPhones, BlackBerries, MP3 players and mobile phones and can be legally copied between multiple devices.

I love competition. Whenever good or excellent programs or hardware are introduced, it can only spur Apple on to even better things. Either way, we all win.
