Wed, 25 Nov 2009 BBC iPlayer comes to Freesat from 7 December
ITV Player will launch onto Freesat in the first half of 2010
The BBC's popular iPlayer catch-up TV service, will be available in beta format from 7 December on Freesat, the free-to-air satellite platform from the BBC and ITV.
However, only selected journalists and partners will be able to access the service using a code prior to a full launch, although a press release adds: "We hope as many Freesat viewers as possible will be able to use the service by Christmas and without the need for a code."
It was also confirmed that ITV Player, ITV's version of iPlayer, will launch onto Freesat in the first half of 2010.
All existing Freesat HD television equipment will be able to receive the BBC iPlayer service so consumers will not need to buy a new box or TV. Viewers will need to connect HD Freesat TV or HD box to your broadband via the Ethernet port using an Ethernet cable. Viewers will need an actual broadband speed of 1Mbps to watch BBC iPlayer or 2Mbps to watch in high quality.

The Freesat service has no monthly subscription fee and is an alternative to the terrestrial Freeview service for those who suffer from poor aerial reception.
Freesat gives viewers access to more than 140 television and radio channels, and offers a selection of high-definition programming from both the BBC and ITV.
Official Freesat receivers are automatically updated with any additional channels and services become available.
Full channel listings are available here.
