Adobe has announced version 1.1 of Adobe PDF Print Engine, introducing Mac OS X support.

The technology is a design-to-print solution that uses the PDF and Job Definition Format (JDF) to offer control of the print workflow.

Additional new features include support for PDF 1.7, PDF layer management and enhanced colour management.

Adobe also confirmed that many of its OEM printing partners will demonstrate solutions that integrate its PDF Print Engine into printing systems at Graph Expo, 15-18 October in Chicago.

Introduced in April 2006, Adobe PDF Print Engine today powers products from the print industry's biggest names, with Agfa Graphics, Dainippon Screen, FujiFilm Electronic Imaging, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen, Kodak Graphic Communications, and RIPit all showcasing products that use the technology.

The technology allows PDF print jobs to stay device-independent across the workflow.
