The rumoured Apple concession in London's most famous department store will open in mid-March, it has been reported.

Reports that a mini Apple Store, featuring the familiar wooden benches though without a Genius Bar, was planned for Harrods in Knightsbridge first surfaced last month on the 9to5Mac blog.

The same website is now reporting that Harrods sources have said that the concession will open in mid March.

This has led 9to5Mac to speculate that the iPad 3, which is expected to be announced in early March, possibly on Wednesday the 7th, will arrive at the same time as the Harrods Apple Store. Its logic suggests that the actual launch day will be 16 March, which is a Friday (the day Apple typically launches new iPads), so this date may be worth marking in your diary.

iPad 3 'a precursor to smaller, 7in iPad'

"It is possible that Apple is opening the Harrods store in conjunction with the launch of the iPad 3. Harrods, a store that sits on five acres, sees roughly 300,000 visitors on its busiest days. What better place to have an iPad 3 launch day than a high-end department store with hundreds of thousands of visitors?" the report's author Mark Gurman writes.

Gurman goes on to speculate that this may be the launch day for the UK but not the US, as the iPad 2 launched at different times in the two countries. So perhaps 9 March could be the US launch? We'll find out soon enough, we suppose. Hopefully.
