Apple has been investigating complaints that OS X Mountain Lion is draining MacBook battery life, and it looks like they may have found a solution.

9To5Mac reports that Apple has issued an invitation to AppleSeed testers to install the first 10.8.1 Betas, indicating that an update to the operating system is is on its way.

It is believed that the update will address battery drain concerns and also the Save As behaviour, which saves both the original story and also creates a new one.

A new test conducted by Ars Technica reveals that OS X Mountain Lion, which was released to the public in July, can reduce a MacBook Pro with Retina display’s battery by about 38 per cent.

Several polls conducted by various publications revealed that huge percentages of MacBook owners have been experiencing shorter battery life since upgrading to Mountain Lion, and this has resulted in an Apple Support Communities thread spanning more than 50 pages.
