Dog owners that want to train their pet to obey simple commands or check their canine companion's unruly behaviour can now get a helping hand from a new iOS app.

The free app, Dog Trainer Pro, promises to help you train dogs to sit, stay, lay down, leave, come back, settle, erase excess barking, as well as house train your furry friend. It also offers tips on how to train your new puppy.

Dog Trainer Pro is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and requires iOS 4.0 or later.

"There's been a great response so far which just goes to show that people are seeing the benefits of having all the tools to train your dog available on your phone," said Jez Rose, the canine and wolf behaviour specialist behind the app.

Created by TheAppStudio.com, there are already plans for an updated version of the app that will include high definition video how-tos. Work has already begun on an Android version of the app.

Neil Russell-Smith, chief marketing officer at TheAppStudio.com said: "People and their dogs are a universal theme and it was amazing to see people downloading it onto their phones all over the world. We've had downloads from the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and even China."
