If you're heading to Heathrow in a hurry and need to use the Heathrow Express a new app could be just the ticket.
Heathrow Express has launched what is the first UK app where train tickets are sent directly to your iPhone. Once you have paid you are sent a two-dimensional bar code which Heathrow Express inspectors can scan using special handsets.
If you use the Heathrow Express regularly, you can store your payment details to make the purchase even quicker, though you will need to make the purchase at least 15 minutes before travelling, so you can't actually buy a ticket through the app while on a train.
Payment details are encrypted, though the three-digit security code on the back of the card in the signature strip is not stored and is required each time you book a ticket.
The app also offers live service updates so you can get advanced warning of any delays on the line between London Paddington and Heathrow.
The free Heathrow Express app is available now in the iTunes Store and is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, requiring iOS 3.0 or later. There are versions for Android and BlackBerry available too.
Heathrow also offers a free app, Heathrow Airport Guide Pro, which provides live flight tracking, terminal maps, travel planning tools, a security guide, shop and restaurant listings.
