A Playboy app for the iPad will be available by March, publisher Hugh Hefner has said.

Making the claim on his Twitter account - which has been verified by the micro-blogging site - Hefner insisted that the app would be uncensored.

Hefner said: "Big news! Playboy--both old & new--will be available on iPad beginning in March."

He said that back issues of the title, as well as current issues would be available. However, there is no mention of whether it will be available for international markets.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has distanced the iTunes Store and iOS from "porn" in the past, describing it as "a place we don't want to go - so we're not going to go there" in April 2010. So if Hefner's claims are true, they would seem to suggest a change in Apple's thinking.

Reactions on Twitter to the claim were generally positive. "I hope to get an iPad this year. I'm glad the best mens magazine will be on it!" one Twitter member commented.

"Is there an option where you can just download the articles?" asked another.
