Mac owners have been flocking to the Mac App Store in their droves in the first 24 hours after it opened its virtual doors.

In fact, according to Apple, there have been one million downloads already.

"We're amazed at the incredible response the Mac App Store is getting," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO.

"Developers have done a great job bringing apps to the store and users are loving how easy and fun the Mac App Store is," he continued.

You can browse through the Mac App Store by category or use the search function. Like the iPhone App Store, you can read developer descriptions as well as user reviews.

There are several different categories, including Education, Games, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle, Productivity and Utilities.

Installing apps is a one-step process - simply enter your password and the app will appear on your dock within seconds. When it comes to updating, app updates can be installed one at a time or all at once.

However, there are fears that pirates are already taking advantage of a loophole in some applications to run paid-for apps without authorisation whereas some developers expressed fears of price wars, lack of consumer choice and technical support "disasters".
