Roxio has launched Toast 8 Titanium, ushering in a range of improvements to the software, not least support for transferring TiVo recordings to the Mac.
Toast is the industry standard CD burning software for Macs, the software is shipping today in the US.
Toast 8 brings TiVo and the Mac together for the first time, enabling users to enjoy their favourite TV programs on their Mac, burn them to disc, or convert them for viewing on a mobile device such as an iPod or PSP. The software offers a similar level of suport for recordings made using EyeTV software and devices.
Toast 8 also offers a range of tools to help users create better-sounding mix CDs and music DVDs. The software also introduces Blu-ray Disc burning, as well as automatic disc cataloguing, cross-platform data spanning, and disc restoration.
"Toast revolutionised disc burning on the Mac, so it was the natural choice to help us bring TiVo to the platform," said Jim Denney, vice president, product marketing at TiVo. "Now, our two companies are taking that empowerment to the next level by extending TiVo's exclusive TiVoToGo feature to Mac users, giving them the ability to enjoy their favourite entertainment on the Mac, on DVD, and on-the-go."
The interface has been tweaked once again in order to make it even easier to create burning projects.
The new Toast Photo Disc feature lets users create discs capable of storing thousands of full-resolution images, as well as auto-run slideshows. Discs can be played on a Windows PC or a Mac, or used in photo-finishing kiosks.
New personalised labels and cover art creation tools include a clip art image library and support for Google image search.
For better audio, the software also offers DJ-style crossfades, volume normalisation tools, sound-enhancing plug-ins, track trimming capabilities, and other features previously found in Roxio Jam.
Toast also offers disc recovery tools to help users recover data from scratched or damaged discs that may be unreadable in the Mac OS Finder. The tools let users recover from read errors encountered during disc copying and recover some files from damaged discs to create new clean copies of the previously unreadable disc.
Users can back up an entire 9 GB DVD to a standard 4.7 GB DVD disc using Roxio's Fit-to-DVD compression while the new Director's Cut feature lets users select the specific video, audio, and languages they wish to record or convert individual video files for use on a portable video player.
Toast 8's data-spanning lets users safely back up data of any size, such as entire music or photo libraries, iMovie projects, and DV files automatically across multiple discs.
Toast 8 Titanium costs £69.99.
