Roxio has confirmed plans to launch an all-new application designed to make it easy to convert content into formats supported by iPods and the Apple TV.

Roxio Crunch does even more than that – it will also convert media for later playback on Apple's soon-to-ship iPhone.

The software will also answer one frequent demand from Apple TV users – it will convert media formats unsupported by Apple into a suitable format.

Supported non-Apple formats include DivX, MPEG-2 and DVD-Video. Crunch will naturally support native QuickTime file formats including DV, AVI, and MOV.

Additional features Roxio has admitted in advance of the software's official launch later this year include batch export and an automated feature which adds converted content to iTunes for later syncing with Apple's media playback devices.

The software will also be able to rip and convert unprotected DVDs, and will offer multiple quality settings.
