A project management tool for professional writers is available now: Scrivener 1.0 for Mac OS X.

The software has been developed to help book, short story, feature and research-paper authors. It acts as a combination of word processor and information management systems.

Scrivener 1.0 offers the ability to edit multiple documents in full-screen mode, a virual index card data entry system, a story outliner and support for managing information using keywords.

When it comes to doument creation, the software lets users create multiple documents within one project. These documents can be edited individually or merged together into one document for overall editing. Virtual index cards store a synopsis for every document you create.

Scrivener will also export final drafts to a word processor for final formatting, including support for footnotes, annotations and images.

The Universal (PowerPC/Intel Mac) application requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). It costs $34.99.
