Adobe's Creative Suite 3 Design Premium software bundle includes new versions of the tools for page layout, image editing, illustration and PDF workflows as well as new components for creating websites, interactive experiences, and mobile content.

Here we look at three new features in Photoshop CS3:

1) Black and White conversion

A Black and White adjustment command helps you quickly remap the colours in an image to monochrome, and includes improvements to the Channel Mixer. The improved Curves adjustment includes new colour correction presets for faster adjustments.

2) Scientific imaging

Open, annotate, remove identifying patient metadata, prepare for analysis, convert to JPEG for presentation, and more, with new, native DICOM (CAT and MRI scan) file support in Photoshop CS3 Extended.

3) 3D texture support

2D texture layers can be applied to imported 3D objects and manipulated just like any 2D image, allowing models to be selectively coloured or saved back out as Photoshop-compatible files.

We take a look at all the features in the long-awaited combined offering of Adobe and Macromedia design and web products in our Adobe Creative Suite 3 feature in the May edition of Macworld, on sale Thursday 29 March.
