Apple has announced its 12th annual Apple Design Awards for software developers.

The awards aim to recognise the best "technical excellence and outstanding achievement in Mac OS X software design and development." Winners will be announced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

There are seven award categories, including: Leopard Application, User Experience, Developer Tool, Best OS X game, Scientific Computing, Dashboard widget, and Student Application.

Prizes in each category include two 15-inch MacBook Pros, two 30-inch Cinema Displays, ADC Premier membership and up to $3,000 toward attending WWDC 2007.

Developers have until Monday 23 April 2007 to submit their software for entry into the annual contest.
