Adobe has announced the immediate availability of a version of Acrobat Reader for Palm OS.

The company says: "Acrobat Reader for Palm OS extends the value of the new Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Adobe PDF beyond desktop computers, to handhelds."

Adobe says PDF documents created using Acrobat 5.0 will offers a better reading experience on Palm-powered devices than files created with earlier versions of the application, because they automatically contain information of the document. This means text reflows better on the smaller device.

Tim Hickernell, senior program director in the US-based META Group’s Web & Collaboration Strategies Service said: "Making high-fidelity business documents available on portable platforms is necessary to complement the extension of vertical applications to these platforms, such as sales and service automation applications."

Despite the importance of the release to Adobe's publicized strategy of a vision for network Publishing, the company is not supporting Macs with this release.
