Adobe has announced Acrobat Approval 5.0 software, based on Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF).

The latest addition to Adobe's family allows users to fill-in, spell check, digitally sign, save and submit eForms created using Acrobat 5.0 software.

Elizabeth Sun, senior programme director of electronic business strategies, META Group, said: "Corporations are always searching for technology solutions that improve internal work-flows, are easy to deploy, and save time and resources.

"Products that help achieve this end - particularly those from established brands that are based on widely accepted standards - will find a willing audience."

Acrobat Approval 5.0's eForms can be completed either inside or outside a Web browser, saved offline, and submitted to a database for processing in a number of formats, including XML (extensible mark-up language).

The software is available for Mac OS 8.6, 9.0.4 and 9.1, but is not native to Mac OS X. Pricing starts at £26 for a single unit.
